Before getting a tattoo, it’s good to be prepared. Here are some things that could happen to you, but they don’t necessarily mean that situation will go wrong.
- PAIN: The tattoo needle punctures your skin, so it will probably hurt, but it doesn’t have to be serious.
- EXUDATION: In the first few days the tattoo may “sweat” small amounts of ink, lymph and plasma, this is normal.
- SWELLING: Your skin may look red or have raised lines the first 24 hours, if after that time it continues to swell is a sign that something is not going well or even that your tattoo is infected, but do not be alarmed better consult your tattoo artist.
- ITCHING: During the healing process you will feel like scratching, avoid it. Do not pick or peel off the scabs that form.
- REDNESS: It is normal for the tattoo to be red for the first 24 hours, but after that the tattoo should be getting better. If it is getting redder: it is not normal.
